Student Challenge

What if today’s youth could learn about starvation and help children around the world at the same time?

They have the last three years through the Student Challenge!

In 2011, more than 1,100 Central Iowa high school students came together on Wednesday, August 31 at Hy-Vee Hall. Teams from area schools packaged 441,936 meals in two hours while learning the benefits of volunteering to BEAT HUNGER!

Each participant also received a BEAT HUNGER t-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business.

“Pioneer, together with other DuPont businesses, believes that by working with others, we can find new and better ways to ensure that enough healthy, nutritious food is available for people everywhere.”

What is Meals from the Heartland Student Challenge?

The Student Challenge is an educational leadership opportunity organized by Meals from the Heartland and Pioneer to involve Iowa students in the fight against hunger.

How does the Meals from the Heartland Student Challenge benefit students?

Our goal is for the Student Challenge to grow into a year-round effort that provides leadership opportunities for students, brings education of global hunger into the schools, informs students of career opportunities that impact food production, encourages a life-long spirit of volunteerism, and helps Meals from the Heartland sponsor and package food to support families in need in Iowa, the United States and worldwide.
