Mobile Hunger Fight

Mobile Hunger Fight

What if…your company, school, church, organization wanted to package meals at your own site, as your own event?

You can now help package meals by sponsoring either a Mobile Hunger Fight or a Packaging Center Hunger Fight. Mobile Hunger Fights offer the opportunity for organizations to host their own packaging event, with Meals from the Heartland providing the materials, education, support and transportation of finished food to mission partners.

Following are some of the main areas of support needed for you to sponsor a Mobile Hunger Fight:

  1. Facilities (size needed depends upon how many packaging lines, amount of food you plan to package, and number of volunteers at any one time who will be on-site)
  2. Tables (2 eight foot tables per packaging line preferred, but can use two six foot tables)
  3. Extension cords to bring electrical power to one end of the packaging line (for the sealers)
  4. Volunteers to package the food (10 volunteers per packaging line recommended, who will average 2,000 meals or more per hour… but can have 8 or so per line)
  5. Funding to cover the cost of / sponsor the number of meals you would like to package (20 cents per meal currently covers all costs)
  6. Volunteers and vehicles to assist in moving the supplies and ingredients from Meals from the Heartland Packaging Center to your packaging site (church, school, place of business, etc.), and return back to the warehouse after packaging. Two-three volunteers are needed to load the supplies. A panel truck with a loading bed height range of 20: to 24:, with lift facilities (such as rented from Penske, etc.) is preferred to simplify the movement of supplies from our warehouse to your location. If Meals from the Heartland provides transportation, additional costs are involved above the 20 cents per meal.
  7. A radio or microphone for music, announcements and educational information about Meals from the Heartland during the packaging process.
  8. Volunteers to help set-up , clean-up and washing of packaging equipment and on containers before returning (meals from the Heartland provides all training/support needed.)
  9. Be sure to make the necessary arrangements for disposal of waste after the event.

Meals from the Heartland provides:

  1. Food ingredients (rice, soy, dried vegetables and vitamins) and packaging materials / supplies (bags, boxes & tape)
  2. Packaging line equipment (sealers, scales, funnels, etc.)
  3. Aprons, hairnets, hand sanitizer and gloves
  4. Education, training and support (we would help you with planning in advance as well in almost all cases be present during the event to help with set-up , provide orientation, etc.)
  5. Fundraising suggestions and support if needed
  6. Transportation of food that is donated to mission partners overseas or domestically

Meal Costs: Sponsorship is 20 cents per meal to cover the cost of food ingredients, packaging materials and transportation to mission partners who distribute the food domestically or overseas. Previous costs were 15 cents, but due to rice, soy and other cost increases in the past year, MftH has had to increase the cost to sponsor a meal. A bag contains 6 meals and at 20 cents per meal the cost is $1.20 cents per bag, or $43.20 per box (with 36 bags and 216 meals in each box).
